Personal information you disclose to us

In Short:  We collect information that you provide to us.

We collect your email address and name (personal information) when you submit a question through the Contact form. “Collect” here means your email address is saved in Gmail.

We collect the name you provide when you leave a comment on a post. “Collect” here means it is saved in the commenting system.

Donation Processors collect Payment data when you donate money to Guzheng Alive.

Payment Data. We may collect data necessary to process your payment if you make purchases, such as your payment instrument number (such as a credit card number), and the security code associated with your payment instrument. Personal information does not need to be true, complete, or accurate. That said, if it’s inaccurate, donations may not go through and email responses might not reach you.


Information automatically collected

In Short:  Some information — such as your Internet Protocol (IP) address and/or browser and device characteristics — is collected automatically when you visit our Website.

We use Google Analytics, Heap Analytics, and Squarespace Analytics to track activity on GuzhengAlive.com. We use the most simplified version of these services, which collect information about visitors to the site. The information is kept semi-anonymized; for example, Google Analytics will show that “1 user” from “San Francisco, CA” accessed a particular webpage at a particular date and time. Analytics does NOT record who that user is outside of GuzhengAlive visits.

This information does not reveal your specific identity (like your name or contact information) but may include device and usage information, such as your IP address, browser and device characteristics, operating system, language preferences, referring URLs, device name, country, location, information about when you use our Website and other technical information.

A more technical description of this information:

  • Log and Usage Data. Log and usage data is service-related, diagnostic usage and performance information our servers automatically collect when you access or use our Website and which we record in log files. Depending on how you interact with us, this log data may include your IP address, device information, browser type and settings and information about your activity in the Website (such as the date/time stamps associated with your usage, pages and files viewed, searches and other actions you take such as which features you use), device event information (such as system activity, error reports (sometimes called 'crash dumps') and hardware settings).

  • Device Data. We collect device data such as information about your computer, phone, tablet or other device you use to access the Website. Depending on the device used, this device data may include information such as your IP address (or proxy server), device application identification numbers, location, browser type, hardware model Internet service provider and/or mobile carrier, operating system configuration information.

  • Location Data. We collect information data such as information about your device's location, which can be either precise or imprecise. How much information we collect depends on the type of settings of the device you use to access the Website. For example, we may use GPS and other technologies to collect geolocation data that tells us your current location (based on your IP address). You can opt out of allowing us to collect this information either by refusing access to the information or by disabling your Locations settings on your device. Note however, if you choose to opt out, you may not be able to use certain aspects of the Services.

We use personal information collected via our Website to:

  • Answer Questions Submitted via Forms

  • Improve the Site’s User Experience

  • Accept Donations

3. WILL YOUR INFORMATION BE SHARED WITH ANYONE?

In Short:  GMail, SquareSpace, Google Analytics, Heap Analytics, and if donations are sent, DonorBox and Stripe.

  • Asking a question sends an email to GMail which is saved to Google’s Servers.

  • Visiting the site provides anayltics informatino to Google, Squarespace, and Heap.

  • Submitting a donation (thank you!) provides payment information to DonorBox and Stripe, some of which we can view, according to their privacy policies. https://donorbox.org/es/privacy and https://stripe.com/privacy-shield-policy.

4. DO WE USE COOKIES AND OTHER TRACKING TECHNOLOGIES?

In Short:  Yes, as part of Google Analytics, Heap, and Squarespace.

We may use cookies and similar tracking technologies (like web beacons and pixels) to track website activity.

5. DO WE USE GOOGLE MAPS?

In Short:  Yes, we use Google Maps to show locations of public Guzheng figures and buinesses.

6. HOW LONG DO WE KEEP YOUR INFORMATION?

In Short:  We keep your information for as long as necessary to fulfill the purposes outlined in this privacy notice unless otherwise required by law.

We keep your personal information (analytics information, email address, name, and payment information if submitted) according to the systems we use. Email addresses and names are stored in GMail as past emails; payment information is stored in DonorBox and Stripe according to their policies.

7. HOW DO WE KEEP YOUR INFORMATION SAFE?

In Short:  We rely on the security of our providers.

As we only keep information in nationally-recognized services (Google, Heap, DonorBox, Stripe, SquareSpace) we rely on those experts to keep user’s information safe.

8. WHAT ARE YOUR PRIVACY RIGHTS?

In Short:  Contact GuzhengAlive to verify what information has been stored and to request it be deleted.

You are always welcome to contact GuzhengAlive directly and ask for what information has been collected and to have it deleted. This covers Email address, Name, and Payment information if you’ve previously provided those. Analytics information is anonymized and thus GuhengAlive would be unable to find which activity is yours and remove it. If you wish to prevent analytics tracking, you are welcome to set your browser to remove cookies and to reject cookies.

If you are resident in the European Economic Area and you believe we are unlawfully processing your personal information, you also have the right to complain to your local data protection supervisory authority. 9. CONTROLS FOR DO-NOT-TRACK FEATURES

Most web browsers and some mobile operating systems and mobile applications include a Do-Not-Track (“DNT”) feature or setting you can activate to signal your privacy preference not to have data about your online browsing activities monitored and collected. At this stage, no uniform technology standard for recognizing and implementing DNT signals has been finalized. As such, we do not specially respond to DNT browser signals or any other mechanism that automatically communicates your choice not to be tracked online. If a standard for online tracking is adopted that we must follow in the future, we will inform you about that practice in a revised version of this privacy notice.

However, if the analytics providers we use honor Do Not Track by default, then we automatically honor it as well.

In Short:  Yes, if you are a resident of California, you are granted specific rights regarding access to your personal information.

California Civil Code Section 1798.83, also known as the “Shine The Light” law, permits our users who are California residents to request and obtain from us, once a year and free of charge, information about categories of personal information (if any) we disclosed to third parties for direct marketing purposes and the names and addresses of all third parties with which we shared personal information in the immediately preceding calendar year. Guzheng Alive has never disclosed or sold any personal information to third parties. Guzheng Alive will not sell personal information in the future belonging to website visitors, users, or other consumers.

Verification process

Upon receiving your request, we will need to verify your identity to determine you are the same person about whom we have the information in our system. These verification efforts require us to ask you to provide information so that we can match it with the information you have previously provided us. For instance, depending on the type of request you submit, we may ask you to provide certain information so that we can match the information you provide with the information we already have on file, or we may contact you through a communication method (e.g. phone or email) that you have previously provided to us. We may also use other verification methods as the circumstances dictate.

To the extent possible, we will avoid requesting additional information from you for the purposes of verification.   • you may request to opt-out from future selling of your personal information to third parties. Upon receiving a request to opt-out, we will act upon the request as soon as feasibly possible, but no later than 15 days from the date of the request submission.

We may update this privacy notice from time to time but look, this document is a pain. We don’t like writing it and you don’t like reading it. We’ll update it if relevant laws require us to, but in general, will seek to keep things as simple as possible for all our sakes.
