Music is for people. There are many ways to make it and many joys to be found within. Vi An Music knows this, shows this, and lives this. Vi An takes her skill as an artist and engages with the world, lending her musical voice to causes that care for people, society, and the planet!
Vi An was born in Saigon, Vietnam. Moving to Canada by the age of 6, she began playing on zithers at a summer school. By age 8, she had started piano and synthesizers. Vi An refocused on zithers after high school, going on to perform on the guzheng, dan tranh, and koto.
The art she creates is, to my ear, about experiences. It is personal, both from her and as experienced by the audience. Rather than sole replication of form in pursuit of a uniform ideal (which is also something to celebrate!) Vi An links series of emotive touchstones into an experiential journey.
Vi An's art challenges listeners to leave their expectations at the door. Just as in life, expectations can overshadow the value of the moment. Vi An blends these moments into explorations with a signature sense of discovery. Check her out on Bandcamp and her website.
